Treating customers as tax exempt

When making decisions about sales tax on Shopify, you can use Cleverific Order Editor to specifically treat your customer as tax-exempt. This article will show you how.

Treat customers as tax-exempt

1. Go to Orders in your Shopify admin and select the original order.

2. On the orders detail page, select Edit Order from the More Actions dropdown.

3. At the top right corner of your editing screen, check the box Treat customer as tax exempt

4. Navigate to the Totals section at the bottom of your order. You will notice that the taxes have been removed.

5. Click Save.

Note: If the order was already paid, removing the taxes will lead to a refund due. If this is the initial edit of your original order, the refund will be automatically issued. Read more about refunds here.
